What is Maya Abdominal Therapy?
Rosita and Janneli in Belize, 20009
Maya Abdominal Therapy is a non-invasive, external massage technique. It guides internal abdominal organs into proper position for optimum health and well-being. Maya massage improves organ function by releasing physical and emotional congestion from the abdomen. This massage is effective for both men and women.
The technique applies anatomy, physiology, herbology, naprapathy and Ancient Maya healing techniques to address common complaints. The techniques work by relieving blockages and congestion in the abdomen to improve the flow of chi and fluids of the circulatory, lymphatic, digestive and nervous systems to prevent the progression of chronic disease symptoms.
Janneli Miller first heard of these techniques when she was working as a midwife. After attending a workshop with Rosita at a midwife conference in Florida in 2007 she became convinced that the practice was important, and embarked on her path to becoming a Certified Practitioner. Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN, developed the techniques after apprenticing with Don Elijio Panti, a traditional Maya shaman from Belize. The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT) combine modern science with traditional healing and wisdom to produce a holistic path to physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Janneli Miller brings her experience as a midwife and anthropologist to the practice, blending indigenous and scientific methodologies to promote healthy lifestyles and practices.
